CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Ashley [last name unknown]
Age: 18
Canon: Until Dawn
Canon Point: post-Everybody Lives End; just after the police interviews during the credits
Character Information: Ashley @ Until Dawn Wiki. However, due to the "butterfly effect" method of gameplay Until Dawn, this doesn't focus on one "canon" storyline. I've taken the time to write out all the choices and consequences in the particular run I'll be taking Ashley from!
Personality: When one first meets Ashley, they might pin her as the perfect bait in the horror scenarios that Until Dawn thrives on. She seems a bit jumpy, hates being scared, doesn't seem to do well in stressful situations.... and well. That is a big part of who she is.
When it comes down to it, Ashley is very much your average teenage girl. She's friendly enough with her social circle, is more than happy to joke around with them and tease them, and is prone to snark and cattiness when she wants to be. She isn't all that fond of lying; she's introduced with "forthright" as one of her main traits, and honesty is one of her highest stats. This is reinforced by the game itself, where all the options for better outcomes while controlling her involve her being open and up-front with her friends when it comes to information.
Ashley is a very academically-driven person! She's definitely one of the smarter cookies in the bunch, who enjoys reading and dreams of being an author living in Greenwich Village when she grows up. And considering how well she gets along with Chris, even taking her crush out of the equation, it can be assumed that she's a bit of a nerd. Not as much as him, of course, because Chris is the biggest nerd there is, but it's there. She's not all that fond of horror stories, though, which... is terribly unfortunate for her here.
Perhaps because of this, Ashley comes off as a bit of a superstitious person. She easily buys into the idea of supernatural events happening in and around the lodge, and seems pretty unsure about playing with theouija "spirit" board. She gets very much into the whole thing, never once doubting that one of the boys might be messing with her, and was thoroughly convinced that the ghost of Hannah or Beth was talking to them and stalking her and Chris in the basement. She easily believes The Stranger when he informs the group about the wendigo, despite being one of the few people not to encounter one until the very end, and is the one who reads up on all the information the mysterious man had on the creatures.
Like all teens, she's prone to screwing up and not realizing the scope of her actions until much later on, and unfortunately, this proves deadly in some scenarios. She was a willing onlooker in the prank that led to the Washington twins' deaths, and it wasn't until after the twins went missing that the reality of the situation sunk in. She does feel incredibly guilty over the whole thing, and is one of the first people involved in the prank to express this regret. Even after a year, it eats at her. She fully admits that she and the others fucked up, and makes no attempt to defend herself when Chris calls her out on it. She owns up to her mistakes, and doesn't even hold any ill will towards Emily when the latter slapped her for nearly getting her killed.
Ash, of course, has her insecurities. This is mainly seen in her relationship with Chris; he's her best friend, her study-buddy, and her big crush. She realizes they've been dancing around each other for a long time now, but never said a single word about it. It wasn't until the second sawblade trap that she addressed this, and this was when she was completely certain that she and Chris were going to die. It's likely that, similar to Chris, she was too afraid to say anything in fear that a romantic confession would ruin the friendship they both already enjoyed so much.
Ashley is terrible at handling stress and the various situations the group is put through. Out of all of them, she's usually the first to start breaking down into fits of panic and sobbing, and is often too caught up in her own panic to do anything to help the others - this can wind up getting several characters killed in unpleasant ways. She's reluctant to investigate when things take a turn for the dangerous, and she needs to be reassured by Chris on multiple occasions that everything will be okay. She does manage to pull herself together to keep helping him when they're searching for Sam, so she is capable of helping others when under duress, but... like everyone, Ash has her limits.
Unsurprisingly, Ashley has been highly traumatized by the events at Blackwood Lodge. She was perpetually on-edge during her survivor interview, eventually lapsing into hysterics and frantically repeating herself when she talks about the events of the night. Being caught in Josh's Saw-style traps seems to have left her with a fear of blades and machinery, thanks to seeing Josh's apparent death-by-sawblade. When she and Chris find the area of the basement where he stored some of his machine parts and dead pigs, she nearly lapses into a hyperventilating fit upon seeing the extra sawblades, chains, and hooks.
It's unsure whether Ashley will be able to fully recover from that night, but hey. Even teens can bounce back from terrible situations. Maybe not always in the best way, and not without a large amount of time and work, but... recovery is possible.
